ELOPEMENTS

A wedding day built around the two of you. Not the audience, not the camera and not somebody else's idea of what it should be.

WHAT THIS IS

An elopement is not a smaller wedding.

It is a day with fewer obligations and more room to notice what is actually happening.

Ideally, it is just the two of you. Sometimes one or two friends, your children or a few people who genuinely belong in the moment are part of it too. The question is not only how many people are there. It is whether the day still belongs to the couple.

The point is not secrecy or spectacle. The point is choosing deliberately.

HOW I WORK

A newlywed couple holding hands as they run across a windswept dune.

I know the plan so you can stop carrying it.

Before the day, I help with timing, light, locations and the practical questions that keep circling in your head.

On the day, I follow what happens. I will give direction when it helps and stay out of the way when it does not.

You do not have to turn the day into photographs. The photographs come from the day.

My job is to be there when it becomes yours.

I'm Bjørn. I've watched it happen over and over: a couple starts planning, invites people, and suddenly everyone has an opinion about how the day should go. Jana, my wife, and I skipped that entirely. We knew from day one it would be just the two of us, married at the registry office, with no guests to answer to. I photographed my first wedding in 2011. Since 2012, this has been my full-time work. When it comes to weddings, I photograph elopements now. I prefer working with the couple alone because it gives us time, quiet and room for the day to become their own. Sometimes a few people belong there too. What matters is that the couple never becomes a performance for everyone around them.
"Bjørn did not just photograph our day, he witnessed it."

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KNOW YET

A CLEAR PLAN

You may already know the place, the date and exactly who should be there.

ONLY A FEELING

You may only know that the usual version does not feel like yours. That is enough to begin.

THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU

You can love your families, have complicated relationships or still be unsure who belongs in the day. None of it needs to be resolved before you write.

Nothing has to be finished before the conversation begins.

Three people in light suits standing beneath ivy beside a bicycle in Copenhagen.

WHAT YOU GET

Full-day coverage. I arrive before the ceremony and stay until the light is gone.

One photographer who's been doing this for fourteen years.

Every photograph is chosen with care. No promised count, no filler.

No rushed delivery. The gallery comes when it's actually ready.

No packages. No add-ons. No surprises.

DESTINATIONS

The place changes the day.

Hamburg is home. I work across Germany and Europe, from city halls and quiet streets to coastlines, mountains and places that do not need a famous name. We choose a place because of how you want the day to feel, not because it belongs on a list.

THE LEGAL PART

The practical part can be clear.

You need a civil ceremony to be legally married, which can happen the day before, the week before, or never, if you're celebrating a commitment rather than a legal contract.

Most couples I work with do one of three things: a quick civil ceremony at the registry office a few days before the elopement, a small legal ceremony on the day with just witnesses, or a symbolic ceremony with no legal standing. All three work. All three are real.

Requirements vary by country. In most EU countries, you'll need to register in advance with the local civil registry. I can point you toward the right resources for your specific country.
