SUNRISE DEVOTION

We had met the night before. Nobody had slept enough to reconsider.

I met Katja and David at a wedding on Gran Canaria. I was photographing it; they were guests. We talked sometime during the evening and, for reasons that probably made more sense before anyone tried to sleep, decided to meet again at sunrise.

A few hours later we were all badly rested and barely acquainted. That was the whole plan. No moodboard, no long lead-up, no attempt to turn it into more than it was.

The evening before, we were strangers. By breakfast, we had made a series together. I still don't know whether that says more about trust or what sleep deprivation does to decision-making. Probably both.

Sunrise Devotion is a Lovers Session with Katja and David in the Maspalomas dunes on Gran Canaria. We met at a wedding the evening before and agreed, with almost no preparation, to photograph together the next morning. The gallery moves between distant landscape photographs, close portraits and unpolished moments of laughter.
